Naftogaz Ukrainy asks US to extend N Stream-2 sanctions fast
KIEV, Jun 26 (PRIME) -- Ukrainian oil and gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy has called on the U.S. to adopt new sanctions against Russia's Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline as soon as possible, the company said in a statement on Friday.
"Naftogaz again expresses gratitude to the House of Representatives, the Senate and other Ukraine’s friends in the U.S. who came to adopt the PEESA (Protecting Europe's Energy Security Act) last year, and have just presented a bill clarifying the act in both chambers of the Congress,” the company said.
“Naftogaz is asking the U.S. Congress with deep respect to adopt the bill on PEESA clarifications as soon as possible."
The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom is implementing the project together with Germany’s E.ON and BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.
Earlier in June, U.S. Senate started considering new draft sanctions against the project.
